1st Anniversary

On our first anniversary
Anna and I reflected on how we got here
and where we are going
One year ago today
I journeyed halfway around the world
to be with another human being
(hey, she's a hummingbird, why didn't she fly to me! :D)
whom I met here on Gaia
and fell in love with
Our courtship was followed here on Gaia
and we shared our wedding with all our friends here
My, how time flies
(even though it is not real :D)
We are 2 living beings who found each other
amongst these billions of other people
I met lots of other living beings where I lived
and so did she
but love isn't something predictable
it's very mysterious, isn't it?
One thing Anna and I know
is that our time here is short
as it is with everyone
realizing this
we must love each other
and love all others
to our greatest capacity possible
and inspire others to their own greatness
because in the end
loving others is really all that counts
This life is too precious to squander
Together
we are each others greatest teachers
and each others best students
Thanking all our friends at Gaia again
for celebrating our lives with us

Ah, so that's what Anna calls you - Genie! Beautiful words, Gien; and they bring to mind what we read a year ago. I still remember the countdown and the fairy tale sense to your trans continental love story!

Anna and I always feel fortunate
because we look into the world around us
and everywhere we look
we see mostly unhappy, dissatisfied relationships
Whether it's within our families, our circle of friends
people we work and interact with professionally or just strangers
….that's a pretty big population!
Sometimes couples are quite polarized
but often they are just unwilling
to go to certain places
You can see unhappiness so easily
you can sense it so easily
yet, we all seem to just accept it
as a sad fact of life
It's ok if we are all highly realized
then we can truly accept it and be at peace
but must people don't REALLY accept it
it really makes people unhappy and unfulfilled deep down
What is truly needed
is an openness to hear the other person
Usually, there is no agreement between the couple
to explore those shadow areas
The instinct for self-protection is too strong
and it simply arises and manifests
When this happens
there is no opportunity for change
no opportunity for growth
and the couple gets stuck for years, decades, lifetime
or they split
and the individuals bring that same mental habit with them
repeating the mistakes in new relationships
not knowing that it is their own mental habits
which are source of all the problems
Fear is the greatest enemy to genuine growth
because out of it
there is resistance to explore
those shadow areas which keep you mired
in the continual generation of your own suffering
and the suffering of others
This strong habit of mental fixation
we've seen in too many couples
I was reading a book by His Holiness this morning
and read something he wrote that is relevant to this
He wrote that the mind is a curious thing and:
“On the one hand, a very minor condition can bring about a change in our minds. But on the other had, if someone tries to bully us, no matter how hard they try, our mind just gets more and more stubborn. Yet if we ourselves are motivated, in both our hearts and our minds, we will be able to forge ahead with indefatigable effort without paying too much attention to any difficulties.”
This is SO important and our failure to see this
both on a personal, relationship level
as well as a social and cultural level
brings about so much personal and social dysfunctionality
I think it's both Anna's nature and mine
to share
and it is no accident that we share so much with everyone here
We are consistent
and apply that same sharing attitude in our lives
We are both striving
to be the best we can be
and to bring each other
and the entire world along with us
