KITTY KATS. Our other family members. MEOW!

As I type
I am flanked by 2 sleeping kitty cats:

Kitty kat 1 (on the left floor cushion): Princess
Details: white and orange tabby, smaller, very cute, a stray adopted by Anna
notable features: very loving. when she sleeps, if you put your hand to her, she will grab it and pull it in towards her body and hold it with both her paws and squeeze it.

Kitty kat 2 (on the right floor cushion): Sonnet
Details: black Tabby. A big ol cat. Much bigger than Princess. Sprawled out completely. He often sleeps on his back with all 4 legs up in the air and his tongue hanging out!
Anna found him too, a stray. Anna called him Sonnet for good reason...he sings like a bird...meows all the time! He's kind of a scrappy bully. Beats up Princess often and if he is outside, clobbers other cats. For that reason, we can't let him out. Sonnet LOVES to preen himself. Princess tries but she's just terrible at it.

Both of them get pretty tired in this summer heat and get pretty sluggish. I know the feeling! I posted an image of Princess here.

:D  extract from a letter to my mom:

….. My kitties are Sonnet and Mellow, more ‘commonly’ known as Princess. Sonnet sings a lot, thus his name. He is a large black furry cat with two full moon yellow eyes and a majestic air – even though he eats other cats if given half a chance. Princess is a scruffy little girl – white with ginger smudges and very intense wheat coloured eyes. Both cats were strays who adopted me about 3 years ago. Sonnet used to howl at night and people used to throw water on him. I realised someone was probably going to have him put down and so I started to feed him. He used to look at me with a tragic look in his eyes. As though to say, “what can you do for me?”. And I used to retort saying, “don’t give me that blond look!” and try and harden my heart. But I soon realised one day I’d move and who would take care of him then? At that stage he was motley, with grey patches, due to malnutrition. So I took the steps of adopting him. Off to the vet and did the whole toot. The vet said he was fine and the grey was his natural colour – that some cats ‘are like that’, but over the following year he turned sleek and black. I got him a collar and a heart shaped tag with his name and my phone number on (cats without collars were threatened to be taken to the SPCA). He started to preen himself all the time, as though so proud that he was an ‘owned cat’.

Then Princess arrived, I always believed Sonnet brought her, because she’s the only other cat I’ve ever seen him tolerate to some extent. She arrived one day and lay on my kitchen counter for three days until I decided, ‘okay then, I’ll adopt you too – but no more!’ because one cat was the limit allowed where we lived in River Glades – so she was illegal, even though I also got her fully attended to by the vet, spayed, shots and all other requirements. In fact one of the admin told me Sonnet was the most legal cat in the complex, cause I did all the paper work and everything needed to protect him! From stray to ‘most legal kitty’ in over 400 townhouses:). We weren’t actually allowed to adopt strays – and there were many. People used to move and abandon them. I suspect in Sonnets case his owners just couldn’t find him the day they left, cause he has always behaved like a cat whose known TLC, though he had to make it on his own for a bit. Princess on the other hand, I suspect was badly treated and may have even run away from home. She used to be very fearful whenever people visited or yoga students arrived - she hid herself so thoroughly, I couldn’t find her no matter how hard I searched. Then she’d re appear after they’d left. But over time she’s become confident and very loving. Gien adores her and plays with her endlessly. Princess never wants to leave home but I have to keep Sonnet indoors because he’s such a threat to other kitties – but am hoping when we move after Nev’s finished primary school end of next year, we’ll have a place where he can go outside without being a threat. We have a large balcony and I’ve planted a miniature lawn for them to lie on. We also have a loft, so they can run up and down stairs – so it’s not too hemmed in..

And that’s the tale of the two kitties :) ….

Thanks for sharing your kitty tale… heres one for you…

I totally understand the KITTY-LOVE… having started with just two… my kitty family has grown to a total of 9, each with a distinct personality! Though my hubby would like to thin the herd a bit… he knows i can’t let even one go… they are my babies! I find them not only amusing, but when I’m feeling blue they know and one or two often come to comfort me… that’s the amazing thing about them… their intuitiveness!
Quick explination to why i have an abundence… had one female… un-fixed
(females are expensive to fix)… and punkie was malnourished when we got him… was older than the vet thought… hello 3 kitties… then Rain-X joined the troops got him fixed ASAP… didn’t know that up to 4 weeks after operation… hello 4 more! Hence my brood… but as I believe we are never given more than we can handle…

Of course as i type two of them want my attention… make that three…
I’ll give a brief description and personality trait…
Punkin AKA “punkidoodle”… orange and white striped… sweet (likes cheese doodles… hence the nickname)
Evil… black and white… when little we tried several names… and he was soooo cute, so we would tell him he was evil when he did things he wasn’t supposed to…that’s the only name he would answer to.
Rain-X… outside cat adopted… gray and white… and he would sit in the rain and it would bead off… (it was either Rain-X or Teflon because of his color… he is my husbands cat… they adopted one another)
PJ… one of Punkie’s sons… (mom was black & dad was orange and white) is tabby striped w/ white paws… go figure (we were baffeled too) is the biggest and most timid…
Buddy… PJ’s brother also tabby striped w/out the white paws… has adopted his half brother ans sisters… they play and sleep together all the time.
Babs & Buster… (2 of Rain-X’s offspring)… Babs is the spitting image of her daddy… my hubby wanted to call her Bugs (like bugs bunny) so i went with the tiny toon idea instead…Buster her ALL grey (looks like a russian blue)
Missy… (off spring of Rain-X) looks just like Evil but with an attitude… when in a mood she will smack anyone who gets too close to her! (it is amusing)
Finally… TROUBLE… little did i knw how aptly she was named… is my “dog”… as she bugs me whenever i eat or drink (specifically if i have a straw)… and will only leave me be when she gets some of my food! If she hears paper… she and Evil..  go nutz…as they both play fetch… as does Missy and Babs… bringing back the paper ball for me to throw again and again!
As my Hubby and i have not been blessed with a child, and he is a trucker… they are my babies… and i don’t know what i would do with out them!!!
I know it seems excessive… and most people don’t understand, especially when they find out they are all inside cats… But i have had cats ( with a few dogs mixed in) since i was 5 and my parents bread siamese as well as showed (just like a dog show) champion cats. There were times we had 25 or more in the house at one time… so compared to that i don’ have so many… right?

Thanks to both of you love cats for the lovely intros to your feline family/friends. (and to Dawn & Gemstar too)

With all of this kitty cat chit chat, you simply must go visit this silly cat. And then go up one entry to warm your toots by one or both of the new years fires that are amazingly still burning!

Meow, but with a woof from this home!

Gien… It does sound that way dosen’t it… it’s not so bad, as they have their own room, a basket of toy’s that gets dumped every day, 5 scratching posts and classical music to listen to whenever i go out… and the only time i see them all is at feeding time and when i gett the kitty nip out…now that is an experience!

Mary… entertaining the thought of getting a pug puppy… what do you think it’s chances are… i’ll probably wait till the kittens are a bit more mature though… i do miss having someone who WANTS to sit on my lap all the time… not just when they’re in the mood… kitties can be so aloof sometimes!

I enjoyed all the cat stories. Someone can build a blog or pod about them. Also make movies of their antics and upload to youtube.
