CHRONOLOGY OF OUR LOVE STORY

7:28pm July 31, 2002
Jopoa, grandma passed away
and so ended
an amazing three decade chapter of my life

Quan Yin or Avalokiteśvara was Jopoa's deity and throughout her life, Grandma filled the air with her sacred Quan Yin mantra night and day.

July 31, 2007
On this date,
I honored grandma, Jopoa on the 5th anniversary of her death with many here at Gaia who meditated on this day.

I remember the day began very auspiciously
I was tired and lay on the living room couch
and drifted off to sleep on the eve of July 30th
I spontaneously awoke
exactly at midnight of July 30th.
All day, I meditated and sang the songs I had written for Jopoa
Later that evening,
I went with my friend Steve to the cemetary
and he took photos
while we meditated and sang songs to Jopoa

When I came home from the cemetary
I stopped to sit on a hillside and look up at the stars
I saw a spectacular display of shooting stars
When I arrived home
I decided to meditate
and, without a clock, I decided to stop
exactly at midnight

It was an auspicous day
with many auspicious signs
Maybe they harkened a major turn in my life?
I uploaded the pictures taken this day
here at Gaia to share with all my Gaia friends

A Hummingbird
a symbol of courage and wisdom
happened by my page
she saw these pictures I uploaded
and read about my music and songs to honor Jopoa
and she found that she deeply resonated with it

It reminded her
of how she honored her own daughters passing
with a beautiful book of her own creation

There was something beautiful and special
about this Hummingbird
we both felt  karmically drawn to each other
by powerful and deep forces beyond our knowing

I received many Gaia messages this day
since many were participating in the meditation for Jopoa
but there was one in particuliar that was noteworthy
the one from Hummingbird
This was before I discovered chat
and I was amazed that somewhere in the world
my message was going out
and being responded to in realtime
WOW! I thought!
We ended up messaging more and more
getting to know each other ever deeper
then we discovered the convenience of gmail chat

Sept 1 (?) 2007
After about a month
we actually declared our love for each other
How completely liberating
to be able to say “I love you” to my beloved, Anna!

Sept 24, 2007
Anna didn't really know
how this beautiful love would play out
I was so far away
in fact, on the diametrically opposite side of the planet
I told her I would come be with her
She didn't dare to hope anything would happen
….until I bought the ticket

From Sept 24, 2007 to Dec 6, 2007
We began to create Countdown Art
Each day
my beloved designed a new piece of art
that revolved around that days discussion
and I would reply with a poem
(both are here, on Anna's Blog)
I also began sharing and recording love songs in my home studio and sent them through the ether
to fly and soar into her heart

Dec 2, 2007
The excitement grew as the day grew closer
And suddenly
the day had arrived
and I boarded the plane
that would take me, for the very first time
off this continent
and onto African soil
humanities birthplace
There at the airport
I looked for her
but she was nowhere to be seen
Then I felt a finger tapping on my shoulders
and a familiar voice
“are you looking for me?”
I turned around
and there she stood
wearing a beautiful flowing green top
She looked radiant
She said later on
that she was nervous
up until she saw me
then relaxed completely

Another synchronicity:
I arrived a day before Anna's daughter's memorial

Mar 1, 2007
We spent an amazing 3 months together
and by the end of it
we already knew our hearts were meant for each other
but now
I had to fly back to Canada
When would I return?
We agreed that I should try to return by summer

Anna, you cried so many tears
as we said goodbye at the airport
and we kissed and embraced
never wanting to let go

It rained that day
and as you drove home
you said
your teardrops merged with the rain
Aaw!…so precious

I returned to Canada
and again
we had to rely on the internet and phone cards
to keep our connection alive

May 5, 2008
We were talking about
how and when we would be together again
I had been working for months on the Just The Same vision
and summer was fast approaching
Then, on the evening of May 5, we both decided
that we should marry…a simultanous proposal
I was sitting in our kitchen in Burnaby with my brother Henry
when we made the mutual proposal
and I happened to have popped some popcorn
I made the proposal with popcorn shaped like a heart
and took a pic and sent to Anna
(here's the proposal picture entitled: GUESS WHAT?)

May 13, 2008
I booked my ticket
and we were both joyous
and began another countdown
starting at 52 (52 days before wedding day),
this time to the wedding date
It started here

We decided on our wedding date
June 28, 2008
Why?
It was sandwiched
between your birthday
and my birthday
We chose this date
so that every year
for the rest of our life
we could celebrate a sacred period of birth
your birth, our birth and my birth

June 18, 2008
The day I left for South Africa
and said goodbye to my home
of my entire life up til this day
It's a sad and happy moment at the same time
like closing the door to one world
and opening the door to another
a death and a birth at the same time

So many of our Gaia friends followed us
as I made my way on this 30 hour journey to South Africa,
saying Goodbye to my family and friends in Canada
to a new life with my beloved
Our Gaia friends were enthralled by our love story
so precious to share with them

June 28, 2008
Anna and I consecrated this journey
marking the beginning of my voyage in life
with another traveller
with the aspiration that our union
will result in a life richer than the sum of its parts
Here is our wedding picture

Ours will be a life of bringing awareness
both to ourselves and others
We are both students and teachers
learning where we experience areas of our own darkness
teaching when we see we can shed light for others
Our vow is to see each and every moment as sacred
to revolve our life around selfless love
and bring all beings along with us
on this journey towards home

Thank you Jopoa
for your 3 decades of love
and to my family for all their love and support
Thank you Gra-anna
for your love

May we live a life
filled with awareness and ever greater love
